No. 152 / Week 51 ‘17 reflection

There is this scene from the movie Ratatouille that has been on my mind this week. It’s from a conversation between Django and his son, Remy.

Django: “This is the way things are. You can’t change nature.”

Remy: “Change is nature, Dad. The part that we can influence. And it starts when we decide.”

[he turns to leave]

Django: “Where are you going?”

Remy: “With luck, forward.”

And that’s all we can really hope for. To move forward. This time of year is a wonderful time to reflect and take inventory on where we are and where we are going. It certainly has been an eye-opening week for me and Hannah. We finally feel like we are starting to connect the dots and understand what everything in our past is trying to tell us about our future. Things have a way of working themselves out. It’s almost funny, sometimes, to see how our previous experiences (even the unassuming ones) tend to play an important role in present and future opportunities. But it’s important to realize that “forward” is what matters. To quote another scene from the movie: “If you focus on what you left behind, you will never see what lies ahead!” - Gusteau.

I’m feeling quote happy this morning, so here’s another one for you: “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen” - Ralph Waldo Emerson...It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks play out.

The rest of the week has been really nice. Ate some good food for my birthday, saw Star Wars (call me a non-diehard fan—but I thought it was amazing), finished Christmas shopping, and made some great progress on my course.

I also finished publishing my coaching page on my website. I have been using this app called to track my habits and it has been an amazing experience. I now help others use the app and teach them a system for building good habits. Check it out, and give a try.

That’s all for this week. Next week will be my annual (or yearly—haven’t decided what to call it yet) review/reflection. It will be a Christmas/holiday card of sorts. So stay tuned (or, if you don’t care, no worries :)).
